St. Patrick’s Day Craft

Writer's picture: nestledlivingnestledliving

Hello my fellow leprechauns! Today we will be doing a craft together! We will be making a leprechaun “trap”. For instructions and materials needed please see below!

Materials:

Old shoe box

Green paper

Green paint

Gold glitter

Gold chocolate coins or plastic gold coins

Paint brush

Scissors

Black paper

Multi-colored paper to make a rainbow

Cardboard toilet paper roll

Hot glue gun and hot glue

Pencil or pen

Instructions:

1. Let’s start with the shoe box. First, we want to cut a “door” like hole in one side of the shoe box.

2. Once you get done with this you can choose to wrap your shoe box in green paper or paint the shoe box green. I will be wrapping my shoe box with green paper on the outside and on the inside using the hot glue gun to place everything down. To me, this looks more uniform.

3. Use the green paint to paint grass around the bottom of the outside sides of the shoe box and feel free to decorate it as you please.

4. Next, when you get done decorating the outside and inside of the shoe box, use the multi-colored paper pieces you gathered to cut out a rainbow.

5. You can also use white paper and multiple colored markers to draw a rainbow (this may be easier if you’re doing this with little's).

6. Make sure that the rainbow is wide enough to touch the ground on the outside of the shoe box and the inside of the shoe box. (See pictures for a visual)

7. Make sure you secure the rainbow to the inside of the box, so it isn’t a separate piece.

8. Next, we are going to make the “pot ‘o’ gold”. Use the cardboard toilet paper roll and get it in half. (Make sure it’s still round)

9. Use black paper or paint to wrap around (or paint) the outside of the toilet paper roll to make it look like a pot. You can also use a piece of black paper to put on the bottom of one side of the roll, so the gold doesn’t fall out.

10. When you’re done with this, glue the “pot” down at the end of the rainbow INSIDE the shoe box.

11. Place your gold inside the “pot” and a few pieces around on the “ground”.

12. Now, we wait to see if the leprechaun falls for our trap to get the fake gold.

Now, you have a leprechaun trap and a fun little activity for you and your kiddos! This is a cute project that I believe even parents and other adults would love!
